My name is Matthew Byard. I have completed all the requirements in my Radio Television Journalism program at NSCC and am currently awaiting graduation in the fall.
I have also recently completed an internship with Global News Halifax. Though mostly virtual due to COVID restrictions, I was able to compile and edit video and interviews for both television-news broadcasts and online print media. Links to those works are listed below.
Through NSCC I majored in the television concentration of my program but was able to immerse myself in the journalism component of it as well. Some highlights of my work include: an on-camera interview with, then, sitting premiere of Nova Scotia, Stephen McNeil, about the province’s land title initiative in Black communities; directing an episode and filing a report for ‘WTV’; an on-camera interview with a community activist about Black community issues; & finding creative ways to hone my broadcasting and interviewing skills through the radio portion of the program.
Through NSCC I also acquired many digital media software skills, including through Photoshop, Adobe After Effects & Illustrator, and digital audio and video editing software.
I currently have an inventory of various photo, video, and audio technology, and can independently produce my own work.
In addition to NSCC and Global, I have additional background in:
-
Journalism and tv news reporting through a private media school in Halifax
-
Black and Native history, Philosophy, and Political Science through Dalhousie University
-
Audio and lighting production through Dalhousie Student Union Services
-
Stage building and set production through Events East
-
Camera operating and production assistance through Eastlink and Atlantic Live Stream
